Rik van den Bosch (of the Chimney Brothers)
Musical Impression Of A Journey From New Orleans To New York

"One month later I got to Memphis on my own and found out I'd ran out of money, which left me with no other option than to earn money playing on the streets and wherever else I could. That way I met a lot op people, had roofs I could sleep under and met musicians I could play with.

In Memphis, where I spent a few weeks, I met the most musicians. I especially want to put the spotlight on Carl Drew and Richard Johnston. Two musicians who gained my utmost respect. 81 year old Carl Drew still plays the blues on Beale street. I played with his band a few times and had fun, he's a musician who deserves more recognition than he already gets.

Richard Johnston, quite a bit younger, is usually a one man band who prefers to play his country-blues on the street. Richard's album is called 'Foothill Stomp'. He describes it as his attempt to fuse country music (in particular a mountain sound) with North Mississippi hill country music, played to a stripped down primal beat.

I know Carl Drew has a cd out, but you'll probably have to see him to be able to buy it. Well, you can hear some of his music on this cd. If you ever go to Memphis, you ought to hear and see him play. And while you're there, put a dollar in their tipbucket for me.

So, start listening to this musical impression of my journey. I hope you like it, have fun. I surely did!
